How to Set Your Intentions for 2021

Set your intentions for the New Year!

I can’t believe that the end of the year is finally here. We have all had a year that most of us would like to forget. From social distancing, illness, layoffs – let’s just say that 2020 was not our year. Since we will soon ring in 2021 and the start of a whole new year, I started thinking about the future.

I popped in Duane Reade the other day—something I do often, as it is one store that carries pretty much everything—strolled down the card aisle, and stumbled upon the most exquisite New Year’s cards from PAPYRUS®. As I started to shop, I found myself inspired and started brainstorming some ideas of my own for how to improve in the year to come.

Papyrus New Year Cards from Duane Reade

One thing I have learned in 2020, is that the energy you put out into the world comes back to you. This year—and the past few, quite honestly—has been a whirlwind, and I’ve been going with the flow. After reflecting a bit, I’ve decided that I want to be more intentional in 2021 with everything I do. I plan to craft the lifestyle I want, not just let life happen. If you want to shift your lifestyle or refocus on what really matters to you, read on to see how to be more mindful and set your intentions for 2021.

Connect with Friends In a More Meaningful Way

After a year of being away from those who matter most to us, reconnecting with our close friends will be a priority in 2021. We text, DM, and check status updates online and may have an idea of what’s going on in our BFF’s life from what they share online, but reading their latest post isn’t enough. In 2021, I plan to strengthen my relationships with my friends by connecting without following them.

I picked a few New Year’s cards from Papyrus while shopping at Duane Reade. These aren’t just any cards; they are truly stylish and ornate paper messages of thoughtfulness that eloquently reflect my personal style. I plan to handwrite a lovely message and mail—yes, I said mail—them to some of my closest friends. This practice is one way I intend to be more purposeful in 2021. Too often, we mindlessly scroll without pausing to even process what we are ingesting. In 2021, I want to connect in more traditional ways, and Papyrus’ unique cards are a great way to start.

Prioritize Your Goals

This year threw everyone off of their game. That list of goals you were hoping to accomplish in 2020? It was out the window by June. Don’t be too hard on yourself, though, because everyone is in the same boat. Just because you didn’t cross some big projects off your list this year, doesn’t mean you can’t start again in 2021.

Instead of being overly ambitious and trying to become a billionaire, cure cancer, and end world hunger in less than 365 days, I’m going to set goals that I can actually accomplish in 2021. I will prioritize two main goals next year, devote my effort and energy to these two projects, and knock them out by the end of 2021.

Forget FOMO—Embrace FEIN

FOMO, or the fear the missing out, was a real thing in the past. However, even now, we sit with friends and family at dinner or an event and turn to social media to see what others are doing, as if we feel like we are missing out on something better. What happened to being present in the current moment?

In 2021, I plan to set my intentions to the present and FEIN: Find Enjoyment In the Now. Yes, I totally made up that acronym—but it works! I am going to talk to the people in front of me and enjoy their company instead of staring at my phone and wondering what others are doing. I plan to walk with my head up and breathe in my surroundings instead of shuffling along with my head pointed down at a screen. By enjoying the moment, I will, in turn, feel more fulfilled by my actions, resulting in an overall happier life.

New Year New You - Set your intentions for 2020

Whether it’s sending beautiful Papyrus cards or just looking up from your phone and living in the moment, set your intentions for the new year. You’ll be more grateful and thoughtful, and your positivity will be contagious to others.

Happy New Year! We can all rest assured that hopefully the worst is behind us. Remember things can only get better from here.

Stay fabulous,
