I can’t believe it is already 2019! Another year has flown by, and now we start fresh all over again. For me, 2018 was a challenging one. After years of wanting to move to Los Angeles, we finally did—and I didn’t like it. Despite the sunny weather almost every single day, I didn’t fall in love with the city like I expected to, and I decided it’s time to say farewell. Now, as I kick off 2019, I want to have a bright start this year and live more intentionally. Here are nine goals that I want to accomplish this year.
Goals for 2019
1. Be a More Positive Person
This year I want to exude positivity. I am generally upbeat, but over the past few years, I’ve let the pressure of success get to me. Worry and doubt show up more often than I would like, and I vow to take a stand and do all I can to suppress them. I’m going to work on removing negative thoughts from my mind and combating them with positive vibes.
2. Create a Work Plan and Actually Stick to It
I hate making fitness goals at the beginning of the year, only to let myself down come March. Instead of making a plan to lose pounds or inches, I am going to make a plan to adopt a healthy lifestyle this year. I always tell myself that I am going to start getting up in the morning to work out—and I do…once a week (LOL!). This year I will incorporate some type of healthy activity into every day, if only for 20 minutes. I’m going to start small and build from there.
3. Read a Book (or Four)
You may find this surprising, but I am not a big reader. I buy books, start them, and never finish them. This year, that is going to change. I am going to finish the two books I am currently reading (A New Earth and 10% Happier) as well as two more before the year is over.
4. Pay Down Debt
I didn’t realize that moving to Los Angeles would mean a major dip in my income. Although NYC is one the most expensive cities to live in, I was doing quite well for myself when I lived there. Becoming a full-time entrepreneur for the first time, I have experienced the struggles of what working for yourself really means. This year we are planning to move back to NYC, where I plan to increase my income and start paying down my debt.
5. Get My Delta Platinum Status Back
There no doubt about it: I love to fly, and Delta is one of my favorite airlines for traveling to both national and international destinations. When my husband and I traveled the world a few years ago, I was able to earn platinum status with my frequent flyer membership. It was heaven—upgrades, heavier baggage allowances, priority check-in, and priority boarding, just to name a few. Well, this year I have quite a few trips planned, and my goal is to get my platinum status back!
6. Take Advantage of My New (Old) City
Before our move to LA two years ago, I had been living in NYC for 11 years. The problem is, when I was there I rarely left my Financial District neighborhood. As I mentioned, we are moving back to NYC soon, and this time I vow to live differently! I am going to venture out of Manhattan to explore all of the City and discover what I’ve been missing!
7. Build-up My Retirement Plan
As my finances struggled last year, so did my retirement fund. As I get back on track this year, another priority will be restarting my monthly contributions to my Roth IRA. I might even look into starting a SEP 401k too.
8. Start My Nonprofit
I have been thinking about doing this for a while but haven’t taken the time to plan and execute my vision. I want to start a nonprofit that will benefit women in need while helping to build their confidence. I won’t disclose too many details, but I definitely will be focusing on this during the second half of the year.
9. Be Neater and More Organized at Home
This is something I always say I want to do but never put any energy into actually accomplishing. My mom keeps an impeccably neat house and always has, but somehow I am the messiest person known to man. This year, I want to change that. I will put things back when I am done with them and live by the motto “a place for everything, and everything in its place.” I will be neater this year because organization equals efficiency. This is my vow!
I hope this year brings you everything you want and more! I feel ready to tackle my goals in this outfit, brought to me by Rent the Runway Unlimited. Never heard of it? Check it out here and get $30 off your first order.

Congratulations on your 2019 goals! Goals 2+3 really resonated with me. I have sooo many books and start them and put them down never to finish. My new goal is to read at least 1 book per month. Currently that’s Great by Choice by Jim Collins.
Thanks so much, Sirita! Glad some of my goals aligned with yours as well. Thank for the book recommendation, I will check it and maybe add it to my list too! Hope your 2019 is off to a great start!
