How to Get Ready In a Flash and Look Amazing

It’s 7:30 A.M., your alarm didn’t go off, and you have to be at work in 30 minutes. Don’t panic! Getting ready in a hurry doesn’t have to be a nightmare. I’ve always boasted about how quickly I can go from undone to dolled-up. I’m a pro! If I can get ready in a flash, so can you! Check out these five helpful techniques for getting dressed in a jiffy:

Know Your Wardrobe

To get ready in a hurry, have a clear picture of what you own and where you can find it. Take the time to organize your closet so you are not wasting time looking for things. Try organizing your clothes by color and then sort by casual to dressy; this way you will always be able to find something for the occasion. When you aren’t in hurry, try different combinations of outfits so you have an idea of what to wear when the time comes.

Pick it Out and Put it On

This process is probably the most difficult part, but knowing what to wear is key to getting ready quickly. By having an idea of what is appropriate for different occasions, you’ll have a much easier time selecting an outfit. I’ve watched my friends literally change clothes three to four times before they settle on what to wear. STOP! This will only drive you crazy and leave you with outfit remorse.

Plan Your Outfits As You Shop

Keep your wardrobe in mind when you shop for new clothes, and you’ll easily be able to coordinate or mix and match new pieces. Survey your closet before you go shopping to know what you have and what you need. Buy items that can be seamlessly integrated into your wardrobe so you aren’t stuck trying to create a look when it’s time to get ready.

Accessorize with Ease

Choosing clothes is only part of the equation. Once you get dressed, you are still far from ready to walk out the door. When deciding on shoes, a handbag, and jewelry, don’t overthink it. When in doubt, your everyday bag and jewelry are always safe options. Group your accessories by color tone to make the selection process easier. Keep warm neutrals like browns, tans, reds, and olive greens together, and group cool tones like blue, black, gray, purple and light pinks to save time when selecting accessories.

Five-Minute Face

Being able to put on a quick face will help you get out the door super fast. When you’re in a hurry, take shortcuts to create a glamorous look. Try a quick conceal and powder, eyeliner with mascara, and a bold lip. I recommend trying out this routine for the first time when you aren’t in a hurry. Once you’ve familiarized yourself with the steps, it will save you a lot of time in looking beautiful!

A few of my tips to always keep in mind when getting ready:

  • Have a few “go-to” options of tops and bottoms that pair together easily.
  • Consider that it is always better to be a little overdressed than underdressed.
  • Don’t try new outfit combinations when you are in a hurry.
  • If you can’t decide on separates, grab a dress or jumpsuit for easy styling.
  • Don’t overthink your shoes. Narrow your choices to two pairs, put one shoe on each foot, and take a selfie to decide.
  • Stick to a theme with your jewelry, wear one or two statement pieces, or opt for a minimalist approach to create your own unique look.
