The temperature has dropped, the wind has picked up and who knows, it may snow (soon). Yes, winter is here! We try to escape it for a weekend here and there, but there is no hiding from ol’ man winter. So why not look your best in the season that you wish would just leave you alone. Stop singing the winter blues and start looking fabulous. Here are my winter wardrobe staples to keep you warm and chic all season long.
Boots
Those ballet flats won’t cut when it comes to keeping your toes warm. My husband think I am nuts with all the boots I have “collected” over the years. You don’t have to go over board like me but investing in quality boots is worth every penny. Many of my boots I have had for years and they still look great. I bought a less expensive pair last season and it shows. The leather is wearing faster and the sole is worn down more than any of my older boots. It is true that with leather – you get what you pay for.
Blazer
A blazer is really a year round staple, but I especially love them in winter. They not only keep you warm but also add a layer of style to your outfit. You can stick to a classic, like this beautiful piece from Citizen’s Mark, a lifestyle brand of the socially conscious, empowered woman. Made of double-pressed Italian wool, luxury cotton seed lining, and German wool under collar it is well worth the investment. If your style is a more “non traditional”, try something bold or eye catching and make your blazer a statement piece. Either way you can’t go wrong.
Cords
If you know me then you know I love denim, but during those cold winter months, I find they don’t quite keep me warm. So corduroys are my next go-to item to wear and they pair with just about anything. Don’t limit yourself to just black, with a variety of colors and styles available, you can really make a fashion statement with these comfortable pants.
Tech gloves
Staying warm is definitely a top priority for winter, but you have to be functional too. Say bye bye to cold hands and get a pair of tech gloves now. They keep my fingers warm without restricting my texting or answering the phone. They look just like regular gloves and are designed to be smart phone and tablet friendly. A causal knit pair is great, but I lean to leather with my accessories.
Sweater dress
When I am feeling less than inspired to create an awesome outfit, I throw on a sweater dress. Honestly, a sweater dress is one of the most versatile pieces you can own for winter. You can style them anyway you want! Whether it is an over-sized look with high boots and tights or a form fitting dress with heels and booties. They are my go to option for getting dressed up or down all winter long.
