What is a Raw Food Diet??

People who eat raw food only, base their diet on foods which are organic, uncooked and unprocessed, therefore the diet consists mostly of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and sprouted grains. Raw foodies sometimes includes unpasteurized dairy products, raw eggs, meat and fish too. Although it is uncooked, food can sometimes be a bit warm, but it should not go above 118 degrees.

This type of diet is very beneficial for human health because there are no additives and other ingredients known to cause a variety of health conditions. It can be particularly helpful for people who struggle with their gut health. Raw foods are pretty easy to digest and contain many nutrients, unlike processed foods which may take up to three days to dissolve and are nowhere near nutritional in comparison to organic and unprocessed foods.

Ingredients:

  • 2/3 cup of almonds (I always put some more)
  • ¼ cup sesame seeds
  • ¼ cup linseed (flax meal)
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 1 cup sun dried tomatoes
  • 3 dates
  • 1.5 tablespoons organic tahini
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
  • 6 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

Preparation

  1. Dip the sun dried tomatoes and dates in water for thirty to sixty minutes
  2. Put the first group of ingredients (dry ones) in a blender and pulse for a few seconds until they are nicely crumbled and mixed, but not too fine or flour like.
  3. Drain the tomatoes and put them in the blender.
  4. Add the other ingredients and pulse until everything is mixed well together and sticky
  5. Scoop out the mixture and create the shapes you want. Put it in the fridge until it is ready to serve. Before serving, you can dip the bites in sesame seeds or herb mix.

Raw food can be very tasty, despite of what many people think, especially when you add some spices to it. Besides being delicious, this food can also be very aesthetically pleasing, even though some people, who base their opinions on prejudices, will probably say that is not the case.

Note:  If you are allergic to almonds, you could substitute them with hazelnuts, or even macadamia nuts.

Enjoy!
