Waking up to the sound of the ocean crashing against the shore, the smell of a freshly brewed pot of coffee, and a heart-healthy breakfast cooked and waiting, isn’t the only way to have an amazing start to your morning (although it does sound nice). Whether you have an early work meeting, are getting your kids ready for school, or are preparing to deal with other essential obligations, it’s important to make the most out of your morning, as it is a measure of how you will approach your entire day. Don’t just start your day; jump-start it! With a few simple changes, you can set the tone in the morning to maximize your productivity throughout the day. Check out these six tips:
1. Get a Good Night’s Rest.
It is hard to feel great in the morning when you did not get enough sleep the night before. Try to ensure that you are meeting your individual sleep requirements. Getting plenty of sleep will help you to wake up refreshed so you can truly take advantage of your morning.
2. Refuel With Water.
Drinking a cold glass of water when you wake up has proven to have several health and therapeutic benefits. Start your day with drinking water to purify your system and get your insides going.
3. Take a Cold Shower.
Easier said than done, right? I am a fan of warm showers myself, but as unbearable as cold showers are, they are surprisingly really good for you. Taking a cold shower can help wake up your brain and body. Try turning your water cold for the last few minutes of your shower to improve your alertness.
4. Refuse the Computer.
Many of us will spend most of the workday on the computer, which is why it’s so important to start your day technology-free! Try to avoid the temptation of checking your email or scrolling through your social media feeds in the morning; it can distract you from what you actually want and need to accomplish that day.
5. Listen to Music.
Listening to your favorite songs is an easy way to pump yourself up in the morning. Create a CD or playlist that is upbeat and motivating to feel good and get moving!
6. Say a Positive Affirmation.
Saying an affirmation, or what is known as a positive thought and affirmative belief, is a great way to calm your mind, release stress, and give you the confidence you need to start your day. Affirmations can set the tone for your day and equip you with the mental tools to handle difficult situations with optimism. Here are a few examples of affirmations to say every morning:
- “I am feeling healthy and strong today.”
- “I love and approve of myself.”
- “I draw from my inner strength and light.”
