You wash your face every night, apply sunscreen daily, and treat yourself to a facial every six months. You may think this is all that’s necessary to properly care for your skin, but you might be missing a few simple skincare must-dos. If your skin is important to you, you should do all you can to make yours looks its best. Go the extra mile by making sure to follow these five simple tips for healthier skin.
Double Cleansing
This is one of the most important steps in skincare, yet I suspect most women don’t practice this technique. I double cleanse my face every night—and only at night—to remove all the product build-up and dirt from the day. The first step in double cleansing is to remove your makeup. For this, I use an oil-based cleanser to break down my foundation and eye makeup. Once these are removed, I use a cream-based cleanser to clean my face and pores. These two steps are important because leftover makeup and dirt can cause breakouts and blemishes. If you wear makeup on a daily basis, you should be using this method.

Sleeping On a Silk Pillowcase
If you aren’t sleeping on a silk pillowcase, you are doing your skin a disservice. Unlike cotton, silk excels at keeping your face hydrated at night, and as we all know, hydrated skin is healthier and smoother. Say goodbye to those sheet wrinkles that appear after sleeping on typical cotton sheets! The soft and cooling touch of silk aids in a better night’s sleep, leaving you more well-rested with fewer dark circles and less puffiness. Plus, it works wonders for your hair too. Masking
Applying a facial mask can kick your skin routine into high gear. Whether you are trying to treat acne, reduce the signs of aging, lighten blemishes, or just calm and relax your skin after a stressful day, masks for several of your skin concerns can easily be incorporated into your evening skin regime once or twice a week. Here are some suggestions for finding the best masks for your skin.

Using Retinol or Glycolic Acid-Based Products
Cleansing and moisturizing are great for your skin, but you shouldn’t stop there. If you are concerned about signs of aging, hyperpigmentation, or clogged pores, these ingredients can help reduce the appearance of common skin conditions. Retinol, also known as Vitamin A, helps reduce wrinkles and boost collagen production, among other things. Glycolic Acid is an AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) and essential exfoliating ingredient that helps combat wrinkles and draws moisture to the skin. I have incorporated both ingredients into my skincare routine and really notice the difference. Note: Products containing Retinol and/or Glycolic Acid can cause irritation, so use sparingly until you see how your skin reacts.

Hydrating
It’s on everyone’s to-do list, yet it frequently doesn’t happen. Countless studies have proven that the more water you drink, the better your skin will look. You should be drinking at least eight glasses or more a day, if you can. While drinking water doesn’t actually hydrate your skin, it is great for your overall health. It aids in digestion, helps to boost your metabolism, and can increase concentration and brain function. All of these factors improve your overall well-being, which can result in visibly clearer, healthier skin.
These five simple improvements can do wonders for your skin. Grab a glass of water and try to tackle these five areas, and let me know what happens. Radiant skin, here you come!
