The dining options in NYC are endless, but when a restaurant has a delicious menu, rotating specials and is reasonably priced…I’m there (and I usually keep coming back)! A hidden gem in the midst of the Financial District, Da Claudio offers traditional northern Italian cuisine with a modern contemporary flair. The menu offerings include seasonal specialties, homemade pasta, and handcrafted cocktails, so it is no wonder this restaurant became an instant favorite of mine. I wanted to keep this place all to myself, but with food this good, it was only right for me to share Da Claudio with all of you.
After Super Storm Sandy, husband and wife owners Claudio and Linda, decided to rebuild when their former Seaport restaurant Barbarini was destroyed. This new loft style space feels very clean and modern while showcasing the open kitchen design. The artwork, fun cartoon depictions of both Claudio and Linda, really pop off the walls and enhances the lively vibe. Like their previous restaurant, you can get fresh Italian meats and cheeses to-go or tableside, plus if you are entertaining Da Claudio also caters.
Decor aside, what really drew me into this restaurant was the menu. As a home chef, I try not to eat at places where I can easily re-create the same dish. That is definitely not that case here! Da Claudio’s pasta are all freshly made including, my husband’s favorite, the Squid ink linguine served with prawns in a spicy tomato sauce. If you are an adventurous eater, my recommendation is the Spaghetti with preserved lemon and baby octopus.
Venetian-born Chef Mattia Meneghetti took an innovative approach to his native cuisine when designing the Da Claudio menu. Some of the favorites are the light and fluffy Gnocchi with Speck, a must try Spaghetti Carbonara with a Swiss chard sauce and pancetta slab, and the daily Risotto special.
With fantastic food, top notch service, and crafted seasonal cocktails, the next time you are in the financial district you must stop by Da Claudio and tell them I sent you, you won’t be disappointed!
Bon Appetite!
