Summer Edition: Everything I’m Currently Using On My Hair

NuMe Curl Wand Summer Hair products

Other than staying cool, one of the biggest challenges I face each summer is trying to keep my hair looking its best. Between the heat and the humidity in NYC, it is damn near impossible to get that “straight out of the salon” look. I know I have mentioned this before, but I stopped getting my hair professionally styled over a decade ago. Instead, I decided to invest in quality products that work and do it myself.

Don’t get me wrong; I’ve had a few ponytail days this summer. But for the most part, I’ve kept my hair on point—and here is what I used to do so.

Shampoo & Conditioner

Treatment

Because I was experiencing some stress-related breakage, I decided to add an extra step to my routine and start using this treatment from Olaplex. It helps to restore bond structure for healthier, stronger hair. I have used it only a few times so far and don’t seem to have any new breakage; however, I will update you later with my full review.

Shampoo

I started using Briogeo products about six months ago when the company sent me a few samples to try while I was living in LA. I have used other brands since then, but this shampoo is one of my favorites. My hair always feels soft and smooth after I use it, and I think it provides the perfect amount of moisture for summer.

Deep Conditioner

Along with Briogeo’s shampoo, I also love the deep conditioning mask. It is a thick conditioner, which I love, and it penetrates my hair in just the few minutes I leave it on without weighing it down during styling. I highly recommend it!

Blow-Drying

Leave-in Conditioner

While I know it is important to apply product before blow-drying, I struggled with finding the right combination that won’t weigh my hair down. I love this moisture creme from R & Co. I use a quarter-size dollop on the top and bottom sections of my hair before I blow-dry, and my hair feels so soft when I am done.

Treatment

Because I need to treat breakage, I then apply a Moroccanoil Treatment before blow-drying. The argan oil targets dryness and frizz, while the linseed extract helps improve the overall health of my hair.

Heat Protectant

The last step before blow-drying is to protect my hair from heat damage via the dryer as well as the flat iron. For this, I have been using the Moroccanoil Heat Protectant spray, which creates a barrier that shields your hair from damage related to heat up to 450°F.

Styling

Curls & Volume

In the summer, it’s difficult to style my hair straight and silky, so I opt for a fuller and curlier look. The curl wands by NuMe are perfect for this. I have always used curling irons in the past, but I love the versatility of looks I can create with a curl wand. From amazing, flowy beach waves to loose ringlets, the curl wand helps me achieve so many different looks. Once you learn the technique, styling your hair is a breeze. The iron heats up super fast and keeps a consistent temperature while using. Perfect styling for summer!

Hydrate & Smooth

Once my style is set, it’s time to lock it in and add a little more moisture. For this, it’s back to my go-to styling products from Moroccanoil. One pump of the Styling Creme daily before I leave the house keeps my hair smooth and soft.

Add Volume

When I am wearing my hair wavy, bigger is better! Instead of using a holding spray, I opt instead for dry texture spray, which gives my hair more volume. The argan oil spray adds grit to help mold my hair without making it hard and stiff like most holding sprays would.
