Why I Start My Day With Warm Cayenne Lemon Water

Warm Cayenne Lemon WaterI wouldn’t say I’m a health nut, but I do consider myself to be conservative when it comes to my caloric intake. After a plate of my mother’s fried chicken the last 4th of July, my system was in need of a good cleanse. I didn’t grab my usual green juice but instead went for a cup warm cayenne lemon water.

There are benefits of starting your day with this tangy, spicy concoction, but I decided to find out for myself. I’ve stuck with this habit for the past six months and have been amazed by the results.

Starting my day with a cup of warm cayenne lemon water consists of:

  • 1 cup or mug full of warm (not hot) water
  • The juice of 1 half of a lemon
  • A dash of cayenne pepper

The key is to enjoy your lemon water this first thing in the morning before you have any food or other beverages, to ensure maximum benefits!

Benefits to Drinking Warm Lemon Water Every Morning

Aids Digestion

Lemon juice flushes out unwanted materials and toxins from the body, while cayenne pepper stimulates the circulatory system by opening the capillaries and helps regulate blood sugar. The digestive qualities of lemon juice also contribute to relieving symptoms of indigestion, such as heartburn, belching and bloating.

Cleanses Your System

Lemon juice helps flush out unwanted materials in part because lemons increase the rate of urination in the body. Therefore toxins are released at a faster rate which helps keep your urinary tract healthy. The citric acid in lemons helps maximize enzyme function, which stimulates the liver and aids in detoxification.

Boosts Your Immune System

Lemons are high in vitamin C, which is great for fighting colds. They’re high in potassium, which stimulates brain and nerve function, and also helps control blood pressure. Ascorbic acid found in lemons demonstrates anti-inflammatory effects, plus it enhances iron absorption, which plays a significant role in immune function.

Balances pH Levels

An unbalanced pH prevents your body from healing itself, affects the way your body assimilates vitamins, minerals, and food supplements. Drinking lemon water regularly can help remove acidity in the body, including uric acid in the joints, which is one of the primary causes of pain and inflammation.

Clears Skin

The vitamin C component, as well as other antioxidants, helps decrease wrinkles and blemishes, and it contributes to combat free radical damage. Vitamin C is vital for healthy glowing skin while its alkaline nature kills some types of bacteria known to cause acne.

Energizes You and Enhances Your Mood

Lemons are one of the few foods that contain more negative charged ions, providing your body with more energy when it enters the digestive tract. The scent of lemon also has mood enhancing and energizing properties. Lemon can also help reduce anxiety and depression.

Aids in Weight Loss

Lemons are high in pectin fiber, which helps fight hunger cravings. Studies have shown people who maintain a more alkaline diet, do lose weight faster. The cayenne pepper increases the temperature of your body and kick-starts your metabolism, which also helps you lose weight over time.

Lemon water

With all of these fantastic benefits, why wouldn’t you begin your day with a glass of warm cayenne lemon water? It’s cleansing and healing effects will have positive effects on your health in the long run. However, it is imperative to note that lemon juice can damage the enamel of your teeth. It is best to brush your teeth first and then drink the lemon water. Additionally, you can use a straw to drink your lemon water and rinse your mouth with water after you finish.

    1. I agree with you Alyson! I leave out the Maple syrup because of extra calories but added it can be a way to treat the drink as a cleanse.

  3. Hi, can I substitute organic maple syrup with organic honey?

      Yes, you certainly can!

  4. You don’t say how much cayenne pepper to add to lemon water. I think I will add honey instead of maple syrup.

  5. I agree with you about cayenne’s effects on indigestion. I suffer from digestive issues and whenever I eat chili peppers with lemon juice, my stomach functions normally. And I also feel more energetic when eating chili peppers. No wonder why many people take cayenne supplements these days.

  6. Thank you most kindly for sharing this. I started this about two weeks ago and can feel slight changes within my body. It is really enjoyable. Thank you again!

  8. I am not yet experienced as I am on my third day using his mixture of lemon and warm water and today I have learned that a pepper can also be added.

  9. Hi, thank you for your blog post. Can you explain why the water should be warm and not hot? I heat water on stove and add lemon and cayenne to my mug. I wait for it to cool down before I drink it. Is that all it is… or does lemon react to hot water in a way you don’t want. Or am I over thinking all this? Lol. Thank you

  10. This is absolute. I’ve been drinking a cup of hot chili water every morning for years but I never thought of putting lemon juice in it. It was delightful. Hot, spicy & tangy. It relieved a terrible bout of indigestion Within minutes. I began belching ,which relieved the pressure of bloat and the warmth of the lemon liquid with the extra heat of the chili powder had a numbing , relaxing effect on the stomach pain of indigestion. This delicious cup of remedy combined with a short morning walk brought me quick relief and boosted my energy.
