It's that time of the year again, the days are getting shorter, the nights are getting cooler, but it's still hot and humid in the middle of the day. It's that tricky pre-season when you don't want to walk around looking like you are going to beach, but it's not quite sweater weather either. Finding the balance and being seasonally appropriate can be difficult. Here are a few of my tips to transition your summer wardrobe and keep you looking chic as we approach Fall.
Summer is coming to a close but there is still time to show off some of your chic warm weather favorites. As the season's begin to change I tend to revert back to black, my NYC staple color. I wore this look in LA during the BlogHer conference. People always assume that a little black dress is something that can only be worn in the evening, but with the right styling, the afternoon can be perfect time to wear such a look. This seemingly tropical location is actually set in DTLA, and it fully highlighted the versatility of this LBD. I paired it with this gorgeous layered convertible Isabel & Chloe necklace that can be worn individually or as a combination of all three. I will be packing this dress for my month long Thailand adventure starting next week, which I am so looking forward to. My flat two toned Loeffler Randall sandals add a causal element for a tropical climate, but are still stylish enough for nighttime too.
Almost every year this New Yorker likes to get out of gritty NYC and do some California dreaming. I wouldn't consider myself a jet-setter, but I take around 4-5 trips each year with a big vacation in the mix. I'll be honest, I like to travel in style. From my flights, dining out, and most importantly the hotel, nothing sub-par will do. This LA trip was no exception and I enjoyed every minute of it. I've always looked forward to planning trips. I love finding delicious restaurants to try, shopping like a local and of course booking excellent accommodations. I don't have a fortune to spend when traveling. Luckily, there are some tips and tricks you can use to save money without skipping out on the luxury.
4.5 Star AccommodationsMy mom always said, "If you aren't staying somewhere that is at least as nice as where you live, then find a better hotel!" I have definitely taken this to heart. To escape the Florida heat, she packed a bag or three and joined me on my California trip. We decided to spend a few relaxing days at the InterContinental Century City, conveniently located blocks away from Beverly Hills.
Each month I find a few things that I can't seem to ever put down. Some items are seasonal, some are a new find and others are old favorites. These are my August summer essentials that I just can't live without.
I love when experiences come together to create lasting impressions! Isn't that what traveling should be about? Leaving your city for client meetings, to catch up with friends & family, to experience something outside of your norm. Your travels should provide a restful night sleep in a relaxing room that you can call your home away from home, even if for just one night. Last week, my husband and I were delighted to spend the evening cruising the Hudson on behalf of IHG Rewards and their Share Forever promotion. To make the experience last, we planned our own staycation not too far from home, at the Hotel Indigo in the Lower East Side of NYC. I am excited to partner with IHG and share our little adventure with you. This cruise was their way to say "thank you" to the Elite members of their reward program. Beyond the room upgrades, free internet, priority check-in and late checkout perks, to show their appreciation IHG went one step further. They hosted several reward events around the country for their extra loyal guests. Our night began with cocktails and mingling while tasting some delectable passed hor d'oeuvres, we then set sail around the New York Harbor. Views of the spectacular sunset over the Statue of Liberty was the backdrop for our delicious 3 course dinner. The Atlantica Yacht then sailed up the East River to give us a photo-perfect view of the Brooklyn Bridge.
Oh, how I love summer! No matter how chic fall fashions are, the idea of being able to throw on a great dress and some sandals has its advantages. Earlier this week I was invited to a lovely dinner cruise by IHG Rewards, the loyalty program of Intercontinental Hotels. This cute and colorful striped dress seemed like the perfect outfit for sailing the Hudson. If you are looking for a fun way to mix up your stripe game, find a print with a multi-directional pattern for a flattering look. I got this dress in a last minute deal from Last Call Neiman Marcus (similar styles below). Since it's so striking, a neutral shoe and bag is necessary to keep the outfit from looking too busy. Check out my upcoming post to see how we enjoyed our evening with IHG Rewards and the Share Forever promotion.
